Injection day is the toughest nutrition day of the GLP-1 week. Nausea peaks, appetite crashes, and the thought of solid food can be unappealing. These snacks are specifically chosen for injection day โ easy to digest, hydrating, protein-forward, and gentle on a sensitive stomach.

Why injection day needs different snacks
Injection day snacks need to meet three criteria that regular snacks don't:
- Extremely easy to digest โ delayed gastric emptying is at its peak
- Cold or room temperature โ hot foods trigger nausea
- Small portions โ even 4 oz of food may feel like too much
The goal isn't hitting your normal protein target on injection day. The goal is getting some nutrition in without worsening nausea. A realistic injection day target is 60-80g protein (vs your usual 110-130g).
Morning snacks (worst nausea hours)
The first 6-8 hours after injection are typically the worst. Focus on hydration and small amounts of easily-digestible carbs.
Best morning snacks
- Dry sourdough toast โ bland, absorbs stomach acid, easy to nibble
- Banana (cold) โ potassium-rich, mild, easy to digest
- Plain crackers (saltines) โ dry, bland, settled stomach
- Applesauce (cold) โ easy carbohydrates, mild
- Ginger chews โ ๐ฌ Prince of Peace ginger chews for nausea relief
- Bone broth in a mug โ ๐ฒ Kettle & Fire warm (not hot), sipped slowly
- Cold plain Greek yogurt โ no fruit, no flavorings, just cold and bland
- Coconut water (cold) โ electrolytes without sugar
Morning hydration
Hydration is critical on injection morning. Sip:
- ๐ง Liquid I.V. in cold water
- Ginger tea (fresh ginger steeped in hot water, then cooled)
- Cold peppermint tea
- Flat ginger ale (let carbonation dissipate first)
- Cold bone broth from a mug
Afternoon snacks (recovery period)
By afternoon (6-8 hours post-injection), nausea typically begins to ease. You can introduce slightly more substantial snacks.
Best afternoon snacks
- Protein shake sipped slowly โ ๐ฅค Premier Protein or ๐ฅ Fairlife over 30 minutes
- Cottage cheese + peach (cold) โ protein + easy carbs
- Soft scrambled eggs โ gentler than fried or hard-boiled
- Oatmeal with banana โ warm, comforting, mild fiber
- White rice with soy sauce โ bland, easy
- Cold cantaloupe or watermelon โ hydrating, mild
- Plain pasta with olive oil โ easy carbs, no sauce
Evening snacks (transition back to normal)
By evening, most users feel close to normal. You can reintroduce more substantial snacks.
Best evening snacks
- Greek yogurt with berries + honey โ full nutrition
- Tuna on cucumber slices โ protein + hydrating
- Pulled chicken with rice โ small portion, easy protein
- Toast with thin almond butter โ protein + carbs
- 1 cup kefir โ drinkable, probiotic
- Bone broth + collagen โ ๐ฒ Kettle & Fire + scoop of โจ Vital Proteins for 28g protein
Your injection day snack kit
Stock these items before each injection day so you're prepared:
- ๐ฅค Premier Protein shakes โ 2 for the day
- ๐ฒ Kettle & Fire bone broth โ 1 carton
- ๐ฌ Prince of Peace ginger chews โ for nausea
- ๐ง Liquid I.V. โ for hydration
- Bananas โ 2-3 (cold)
- Sourdough bread โ for toast
- Plain Greek yogurt โ 2 cups
- Cottage cheese โ 1 cup
- Applesauce โ 2 cups
- White rice โ for plain rice bowls
- Cantaloupe or watermelon โ cold, hydrating
- โ Sea-Band wristbands โ drug-free nausea relief
Even if you feel okay by evening, don't attempt a regular meal. Stick with smaller, gentler portions. The delayed gastric emptying effect is still present even after nausea fades. Return to normal eating the day after injection.
FAQs
How much protein should I aim for on injection day?
Realistic target: 60-80g protein (vs your usual 110-130g). Don't force food if nauseous. Liquid protein (shakes, bone broth, Greek yogurt) is easier than solids. Hit your normal target the day after.
Should I skip meals on injection day?
Don't skip entirely โ your body still needs protein and fluids. Instead, shift to liquid/semi-liquid nutrition: protein shakes sipped slowly, Greek yogurt, bone broth, smoothies.
When should I eat before injecting?
Have a small carbohydrate snack (toast, crackers, banana) 30-60 minutes before injecting. Never inject on an empty stomach โ it worsens nausea. Don't inject immediately after a large or fatty meal.
What if I can't keep anything down?
Contact your provider. Vomiting that prevents keeping fluids down for 24+ hours risks dehydration and may require IV fluids or prescription anti-nausea medication.
